What is Net Metering? 

Offered by the PowerGreen service, Net Metering or Energy Offsetting, enables everyone to produce the amount of energy they consume, thus reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions. In short, thanks to Net Metering, you not only enjoy lower electricity bills but also contribute to protecting the environment. All that is required is the installation of a photovoltaic system on the rooftop or plot of the property - this is the most common application of Net Metering.

Through this process, the energy produced is offset by the energy consumed in the facilities of its producer, hence the term 'Energy Offsetting'. The energy produced is used to meet the needs of the facility while any surplus energy is stored for future use. The final net calculation takes place every three years.

How are energy costs savings achieved? 

Due to the high sunlight levels in Greece, Net Metering with photovoltaic systems is a very efficient way of reducing energy costs and, by extension, your monthly bill. Each kW of a photovoltaic system can produce up to 1,600kWh per year, which translates into up to a 70% reduction in energy costs.

Both the energy produced by the photovoltaic system and the energy consumed by the installation are recorded by meters. When the first is greater than the second, it simply means that the producer has managed to eliminate the cost of electricity. In both competitive and regulated fees, the self-producer is a clear winner.
